travelling as a single

As if it wasn't already a bit depressing, given the way how most destinations seem to be portraying themselves as romantic get aways, the travel agencies and holiday planners seem to make the task more difficult and expensive for singles!

Are there any packages for singles? any travel agents catering to the us "less important" class of people?

Anyone has any experience, and information to share? Am planning to take advantage of the May 1st holiday and go away for a long weekend to somewhere near and safe for a single woman.

you can always do backpacking. to developed countries like korea / japan will be fine. i was backpacking all the time and dont think it's dangerous all alone in another city :)

My wife used to backpack a lot when she was single. Always met people and had lots of fun.

Am not the backpacking type.... want a good, relaxing and a bit luxurious vacation. The types that seem to have become the spots for the "romantic" couples.

Want a bit of sight seeing, a lot of relaxing and unwinding from the routine and spend evenings in a nice restaurant with a couple of glasses of wine....
