Are you talking about a marriage to a woman from HK or a woman from the mainland?

Oh right, sorry I only know the requirements for HK which are simple. Not so sure about the mainland, but there are others here who have posted before in regard to their experiences, I hope they are able to help you.

Hello Chris, why not just ask your fiance to call local Civil Administration Office to ask in detail???
As I know, it's very simple to get marriage certifacate in China.

I am married to a Chinese and can answer your question. You could do it in two ways. One way is to marry outside of China either in Honk Kong or a neutral country and then get the certificate endorsed by the local department of foreign affairs and then the Chinese embassy in that country; else you could produce a single certificate approved by your country's embassy or a divorce certificate notarized by your country's embassy, and then apply for registration of marriage with the local civil admin dept in Shanghai along with the residence papers of your fiancee.
Hope that helps!
