European citizens getting divorce in HK-need lawyer
Posted by ori888 (55 days ago)
Hello,
We are both European citizens and we have been separated for nearly 3 years now.
I am HK permanaent Resident and husband is not and he is not living in HK.
We already agreed about all the conditions so there's nothing to settle at this moment and we just want to clear the legal status.
I need a contact of laywer who can help us to do this in Hk without me going back to Europe.
Thanks.

Find the phone number from Hong Kong Phone directory of Mr. John M. Pickavant, he was the one who handled my divorce in Hk. I already forgot his number. It took 8 months for me to get the divorce paper. Efficient and straight forward.

Dear Ori888,
Have you signed a deed of separation? If so (or even not) you may not need a lawyer. Has anything been filed or any action commenced yet? Based on what you have stated you could probably file a “2 year Separation Divorce” with some documents being counter signed (consent) by your husband. The registry at the Family Court in the Wanchai Law Courts Building are very helpful.
Best Regards,
Christian

The fee is HK$12,000.00 I paid in several payments. I gave the balance after I got the divorce paper. That was 4 years ago.
Maybe Christian is correct. It is worth considering to the Family court in Wan Chai if your country has divorce. In my case, my country does not honor divorce so I have to divorce my ex in Hong Kong.
Even Lawyer's assistant advised me if I want through Legal assistance but they will check everything if you cannot afford or not and the processing will take more than 1 year or 2.
I think in Hong Kong, if already 2 years separated, you can just apply for divorce certificate if both the husband and wife agreed mutually for divoce.
