"Ken" in Japanese is translated to mean 'Fist', "Yu", 'Friendship' and "Kai" to mean 'Association'. Shihan Ishikawa particularly chose, 'Friendship' and 'Fist' , in hope that parctitioners of Karate, who have a common interest and love in the art, would grow in skill (of the Fist) and of personal relationships among karate members.
