Anyone who is not a Permanent Resident of Singapore will need to apply for and obtain an Employment Pass or EP in order to work in Singapore. In order to apply for an EP you will need to secure a sponsor, who is usually the company from whom you will employed. The various employment passes available are;
P: are issued for up to two years initially, and can be renewed for up to three years. Under a P pass, your spouse and dependent children below the age of 21 may accompany you on a dependent’s pass. Additionally, your aged parents and parents-in-laws may accompany you albeit on a long term social visit passes.
P1: Reserved for those holding acceptable professional qualifications. A P1 Pass is issued to individuals with a basic monthly salary higher than S$7,000.
P2: issued if your basic monthly salary is more than S$3,500 and up to S$7,000.
