Designed to meet the needs of the British community, the idea of a British Club was first mooted some fifty years ago, but it was not until 1981 that the idea began to take shape. On 19th September 1982, a hundred year lease for this site was signed with the Swiss Club. The founding fathers also decided at that time that the Club should not only provide a gathering place for the British and Commonwealth expatriates, but also for all other nationalities including Singaporeans.
